  1. WOW!
thanks Elspeth for sharing this with us... when i hear Rumi's poems in English, i feel i'm understanding him in a new way...

what makes this presentation special to me is that it begins with a Persian theme... both the voice of the woman saying 'eshgh'(love) and the sound of an Iranian instrument, Santoor... then it goes on with...

    beautiful!

  2. Hey, HB! Great to see you. It's been a while. Nice word verification. I didn't realise she was saying 'eshgh' at the beginning! I love that word. A friend of mine from Pakistan once told me about eshgh when we were talking about Love. I didn't know that was how you spell it. When she said it, it sounded like 'ishk'. She was saying that whereas in English there is only one word for 'Love', there are so many other words in Persian, Hindi, etc. - to refer to the different kinds of Love. When she spoke about 'eshgh' her explanation was so beautiful. She said there's no translation for it in English. It's a very deep soul love.

  4. Do you all mean Ishq? That's how they spell it in all the Hindi film title transliterations.

Elspeth I wasn't going to blog anything Valentine's Day wise because it is hard to cut through all off what it can be celebrated as all that instead happens! But just about 30mins ago I went to throw my portugal skins on to this humus heap I'm trying to make right behind my seedlings and on the concrete a hole that broke off from weathering well the whole was in the heart shape! With a little bit of distortion that look like cupid arrow's entry and exit points! And I thought of you! And I said yea you see you're getting like Elspeth now seeing signs and shapes in everything! So decided to come and see if you blogged anything about Valentine's Day...I think I just might blog about Rumi on my Universal Collective Prayer now!:)

Human Being once someone told me they went to a live Iranian music performance while travelling to some other land...and it was the most beautiful thing they heard in their life! This Iranian music...I think the Santoor made it over to Indian music too and there is the sitar. But I think they particularly liked the Iranian music!I know of someone here who is pretty into the santoor playing...but I dont know her well...I'm in Trinidad just like Elspeth by the way!
