Early morning walk

The park

Wake up.
Early walk.
Dewy greens.
Silence.
Light fog.
Stark trees.
Grey sky.
Fresh, chilled air.
Ruddy face.
Numb nose.
Misty breath.
Dog walkers.
Duck-filled pond.
Archway of pink blooms.
Carpet of petals.
Chanting a mantra to the beat of my steps.
Through the gates ...
The streets.
Awakening city.
Stale alcohol.
Broken bottles.
Young women.
Expletive mantras.
Older men.
Lingering.
Unable to let the night go.
