Testimonial from Carole Anne F.

My studio at the time, laid out for Serendipity's Dinner
*
Elspeth's abillty to create a magical event is amazing. This is how it all began. I attended an art exhibition and in looking at Elspeth's work I saw an envelope to take part in a surprise event. This looked intriguing and I was admiring the windows - ( I am a photographer and have a fascination with doors and windows too) so I popped my name in there.

Well a few days later I received a call from Elspeth who invited me to a supper at the studio. This was the most wonderful experience. There were only about 8 of us, I recall, and there were many delightful surprises that only Elspeth could have dreamed up including profound little sayings in small envelopes for each person. I was unaware at the beginning that all this was, in fact, to hand over the one of the windows to its new owners and that this was being videoed as part of the journey of the window.

This, is what each window is, a kind of creative journey from the time it is found and onwards and I just loved that concept and was so happy to be a part of this one which was called "Serendipity" ... and that is why, I am guessing, there was a random element of chance thrown into the occasion. It was a beautiful object d'art and not just a window anymore and I am sure the new owners will now be cherishing that they are part of the Serendipity's journey.

Brilliant.

Open house showing window lamps in progress - in the studio I had at the time
*
I first saw Elspeth's window lamps at a group exhibition at CCA7 - her studio space/work had an aura that none of the other artists in residence had, and I think it was because her multimedia offerings were so interactive; the soft glow from the window lamps in the corners were also a soothing presence. I left the exhibition feeling fresh, positive, hopeful.
The Dream House Window Lamp
*
Years later, I asked Elspeth if she would be part of a video I was producing on the Arts & Entertainment sector in T&T. While her segment never made it into the final cut of the video, the footage we filmed marked the beginning of the incredible journey that was the Dream House Window Lamp. One of the things that stuck in my mind was the distinction made between kairos and chronos (the universe's schedule and man-made time) and I made a point of attending the unveiling of the window lamp at Alice Yard. My husband and I participated in submitting our dreams (written on a piece of paper) to the Dream House window lamp - and one of our dreams come true - our son - is sleeping on my lap as I write this: testimony that the universe listens and positive thought/action/art can make a difference. Kairos. Everything in its time.

In 2004, the Sugar House Drama Company staged its tenth anniversary production - "Single - An Act of Love". This original one act play was nominated the following year 2005 for Caciques in two categories; Best Original Play and Most Outstanding Dramatic Production. "Single" was an unprecedented artistic success and this was in no small part due to the talent and professionalism of Elspeth Duncan. Elspeth not only scored the original music and shot the film sequences for the piece, she also did the photography. Consequently, the look and feel of the production took on a distinctive, unforgettable and evocative personna. I deeply appreciated her willingness to understand the heart of the piece and to contribute her own perspective to bringing the work to life. Her work enriched mine.

On my return from acting and directing in New York, I looked forward to working with Elspeth again. Recently we did a photo shoot at Mount St.Benedict. Again, her approach was organic yet controlled, moments of pure genius. I love the results of the shoot and plan on using these pictures for headshots and PR. As a Director and an Actress with an international repertoire of work, I choose to work with people who inspire me, with their own talent and professionalism. I choose to work with Elspeth.

Testimonial from Victoria T.

I had the pleasure of working with Elspeth on the "Johnny's Fool" music video that I produced. She was hired as a camerawoman and fulfilled every aspect of that portfolio - she was very innovative in the face of challenges such as poor lighting, and dealing with difficult backgrounds while shooting outdoors and drumming up energy from the cast while shooting in mid day heat outdoors. On reviewing the footage I found that there were many pleasing takes made up of great composition and eye catching angles allowing me much to work with while editing the video. She was great at her craft, punctual, helpful, and most importantly: took instructions well and was easy to work with. I would gladly work with her again.
