For those who are interested in an update on this baby blue and gold macaw which was a victim of the local animal trade ... I asked Detta, wildlife rehabilitator about its progress in a recent e-mail. The following is her response:It's doing well....climbing up and down everything, and making one awful racket. Some of the swelling on the knees has resolved but the legs are still stiff and it cannot lift its foot to its mouth which is how most parrots feed themselves. It will never be able to fly. Otherwise it is in good health and spirits and has most of its feathers now including a long tail.

Aawww...would be nice to see a pic now of how he/she looks to see progress.
Sad she/he wont be able to fly...although never say never who knows...miracles do happen and many beings heal in ways no physician can explain animals or humans. Anyway even though she/he might be able to still have a fulfilling life in captivity though...a difference experience but still...
Has Detta named this parrot?
She says she has not named it ... so anyone reading this is welcome to offer suggestions. Apparently hard to tell with macaws whether male or female - so it can be a unisex name.
oh... poor little thing... it is still beautiful...
That is just heartbreaking to think of those babies crammed together unable to grow properly. Sometimes humans make me so sad.
I'm glad this little one is doing well! I need to catch up on your blog when I can!
